In the 1970’s I had my first introduction into Habitat for Humanity while working in the Detroit area. I immediately added their name to the top of my retirement list of groups and organizations that I wanted to support. As a community organization I have always been impressed with Habitat’s financial stewardship. Habitat uses the highest percentage of income, both donated and through grants, to return to the families, housing and community vision for safe and affordable housing. Habitat’s committed group of volunteers work tirelessly to select families, and educate new homeowners in the care of property management, financial planning and ongoing support. Each family works cooperatively, hands on, with Habitat in building their future and developing the pride of home ownership. Habitat for Humanity works in more than 70 countries and has helped more than 39 million people improve their living conditions since 1976. The opportunities for volunteers are diverse and include only some of the following. Family selection, building, one time donation, monthly donation, active board member, finance, re-store volunteer, donate goods and services to help raise money for future homes. I have been honored to have serve our Mecosta County Habitat as director, president, board member, donor, grant writer, created the Annual Home Tour fund raiser, organized the Holiday Auction, helped build houses and currently support Habitat through goods and services support. Habitat’s family and community commitment has been an asset to building a stronger and more hopeful tomorrow for safe housing and the ability for low-income families to find a place to grow, raise families and give back. As well as Habitat supporting local businesses through material and goods purchases. Working with Habitat has been such a positive experience these last 26 years. Opportunities are abundant and diverse to support one of our finest community outreaches. Maureen Corpron-Vel - Everything Goes moving and Estate Sales.
