Mecosta Habitat Family Circle

Quarterly Newsletter #7

We welcome our new Board member

My name is Dan Grit. I retired 5 years ago and I began volunteering on the construction crew the following spring. I enjoy working with the crew and I believe in the idea of showing God’s love by helping people in our community achieve a decent place to live. When asked about serving on the board of MCHFH, I figured it was a good way to keep involved in the mission. I look forward to helping in anyway I can.

OUR HOME OWNERSHIP PROGRAM

Welcome Home!

Have you ever been blessed? Honestly before I started working with habitat I didn't really believe in blessing in disguise, but now I know they're real. When I started working with habitat I didn't think we were getting anywhere, but the wonderful people working with habitat reassured every doubt I had. At first it's really infuriating, because it feels like you're going circles. One side note is you look at every house even if it's not the prettiest, but it's worth it . The outcome is amazing. My home is the best thing ever and it is perfect. There one tiny thing that needs to be done but honestly it's amazing. I truly believe that habitat is God's helper in disguise.

OUR CRITICAL HOME REPAIR PROGRAM

I was approved for an interest free loan through Mecosta County Habitat for Humanity in Big Rapids through their Critical Home Repair Program. The staff I worked with was pleasant, helpful, kept me informed and updated. All around it was a great experience. My roof needed replacing. The workers practically worked non stop from approximately 8am to 8pm. They stripped off the old shingles, wood and replaced it all with new. It was a crew of six, 5 men and a woman. They were all very friendly, professional and hardworking individuals and knew what they were doing. They worked together as a team and everyone knew what they needed to do for completing the job with diligence and knowledge of roofing from beginning to end. I was impressed and blessed by the entire experience.

Thank You to Mecosta County Habitat for Humanity in Big Rapids, Michigan

OUR VETERANS PROGRAM

The Home Depot Foundation and Habitat for Humanity partner to support safe, affordable housing for U.S. veterans

I am so thankful for the help Habitat has given me. Lisa and all the contractors, I feel, went above and beyond my expectations. The peace of mind they have provided from the safe and added rewiring, walk-in shower, kitchen cabinets, flooring, and extra lighting is a game changer for my elderly Mom and I. I will be singing their praises for the rest of my days🙌🙌I literally can’t thank them enough as well as Home Depot. This is truly the hand of God working in this world and I pray infinite blessings over this much needed organization.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

OUR DONORS - Our Foundation

MCHFH depends on the generosity of our community for all of our programs.

In the 1970’s I had my first introduction into Habitat for Humanity while working in the Detroit area.  I immediately added their name to the top of my retirement list of groups and organizations that I wanted to support. As a community organization I have always been impressed with Habitat’s financial stewardship.  Habitat uses the highest percentage of income, both donated and through grants, to return to the families, housing and community vision for safe and affordable housing. Habitat’s committed group of volunteers work tirelessly to select families, and educate new homeowners in the care of property management, financial planning and ongoing support. Each family works cooperatively, hands on, with Habitat in building their future and developing the pride of home ownership.

Habitat for Humanity works in more than 70 countries and has helped more than 39 million people improve their living conditions since 1976. The opportunities for volunteers are diverse and include only some of the following. Family selection, building, one time donation, monthly donation, active board member, finance, re-store volunteer, donate goods and services to help raise money for future homes.

I have been honored to have serve our Mecosta County Habitat as director, president, board member, donor, grant writer, created the Annual Home Tour fund raiser, organized the Holiday Auction, helped build houses and currently support Habitat through goods and services support.

Habitat’s family and community commitment has been an asset to building a stronger and more hopeful tomorrow for safe housing and the ability for low-income families to find a place to grow, raise families and give back.  As well as Habitat supporting local businesses through material and goods purchases. Working with Habitat has been such a positive experience these last 26 years. Opportunities are abundant and diverse to support one of our finest community outreaches.

OUR VOLUNTEERS- Our Backbone

At Mecosta County Habitat, we could do nothing and would be nowhere without our very wonderful volunteers. We depend on volunteers to work at our ReStore, on our Home Construction sites and at our Critical Home Repair projects. Here is a story of our volunteers experience.

I have greatly enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity over the past few summers. I have learned many valuable lessons when it comes to building that I will be able to apply for the rest of my life. There are many great mentors that not only teach you how to do things the right way, but they also offer great life advice. I thoroughly enjoyed working every day as I knew that I would always learn something new. I would recommend it to anyone, and I look forward to continuing to volunteer.

From my little experience with Habitat for Humanity, I have learned an enormous amount of material and knowledge that can be applied to a variety of my daily errands. I also found great joy in meeting some of the most kind-hearted people. I can’t wait for our next project!

OUR RESTORE

Partnering with other organizations

I like my Saturday Mornings in the Habitat truck at Canadian Lakes. We haven't always had a lot of people showing up to donate, but ones that do are very pleasant to work with. It's my pleasure to do my part for our community and for the past almost 4 years I have done just that, for my Habitat Home Store. Can't wait to see you on Saturday Morning, I'm parked at the Morton Twp Fire Dept. Station 1, near Ace hardware.
